LIFE GOES ON — Carole Sanek

Robert Frost was absolutely right when he said “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life. It goes on.” — Robert Frost, American poet (1874–1963)

Frost was 80 years old and a wise man. Life goes on, time doesn’t stop. We can try to put the brakes on, but it is impossible.

I vividly remember the day my phone rang, and I received the news that I had breast cancer. I was in shock. I wanted to stop the world from spinning as if I could. As if I could, as if we can, as if it is possible.

I went to the grocery store to get something for dinner and I stood there looking at everyone streaming in, most of them in a hurry. It was as if they were running like a vinyl record on a record player at 78rpm, and I was barely moving at 33 and 1/3. That entire weekend I felt like I was moving in slow motion.

We can’t stop life from going on, and therefore it is so important to choose our actions wisely and spend our time in ways that bring a payoff to us, and to those who surround us.

Life may dance to the beat of a different drummer, and slow motion may be the movement of time while we process facts, but we cannot stay there. We have no control over time; we have no power to change things, we can survive or we can thrive. I have chosen the latter with everything that has brought me to my knees because I learned to always try to make something good out of something bad.

I don’t want to just exist until a date appears at the end of my dash.

“Life is the dancer and you are the dance.” — Eckhardt Tolle
